Farm Tours   

All Continuing Education non-credit classes are for students age 16 years and older, unless otherwise noted.

Visit a variety of local farms and see firsthand how food, flowers, livestock and other products are grown and raised in Northwest Montana. These active walking tours offer a chance to explore each farm, meet the farmers, learn about their practices and experience different approaches to agriculture. Join us for a valuable opportunity to connect with the people behind our local farms.

    Abraxas Farm is an holistic birth-to-finish livestock operation in Big Arm, raising hogs and sheep with organic inputs and regenerative practices. They are home to The Mangalica Project, a gene bank for the Mangalitsa pig breed, as well as Far Out Feeds, western Montana’s first commercial organic animal feed mill.

    Three P’s Farm half acre of diversified vegetables and flowers is an incubator farm on the larger Two Bear Farm outside of Whitefish. An incubator farm program is a situation where experienced farmers supply a new farmer with the land, infrastructure, equipment and mentorship to get their farm business off the ground. The farm is not certified organic but follows organic and regenerative practices.

    Dirt Rich Compost in Columbia Falls is a regionally rooted regenerative composting company that transforms local organic waste into biologically alive soil products and consulting services that rebuild soil health, support resilient food systems and empower the community to participate in the plate to soil cycle. “Vermicompost” workshop is included where participants make and take home their own vermicomposting system using 5-gallon buckets.     Purple Frog Gardens is a family-owned market farm in Whitefish, cultivating food and flowers since 1991. The farm grows a variety of fruits, berries and vegetables using non-GMO seeds and sustainable practices that focus on building healthy soil. After each tour, make pizzas in the outdoor kitchen using sauces, cheeses and toppings made from Montana-grown ingredients. 6/14 tour includes “Perennials for Your Yard” workshop and $20 worth of plants to take home. 7/17 tour includes “Garlic!” workshop and garlic scapes and a mint plant to take home. 8/14 tour includes “Family Day” workshop and seed packets you’ll harvest and package to take home. Limited on-site parking. Carpooling encouraged.
